5/3/16 WHITEVILLE – An embezzlement investigation is ongoing at a U.S. Postal Service office in Columbus County by the Sheriff’s Office, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Detectives were told of the alleged theft by an employee late last month, and expect to obtain a warrant soon, spokeswoman Michelle Tatum said.

A total of $4,855 was believed to have been taken by the employee who issued money orders without filing Postal Service reports or turning in the money, Tatum said
