A former U.S. Post Office employee admitted she stole gift cards and cash from mail sent through the Abington post office.
Jamie P. Fletcher, 26, of the 5800 block of Chew Avenue, Philadelphia, received a four-year probation Thursday after pleading guilty in Montgomery County Court to four thefts.
Fletcher was ordered to pay a combined $885 in restitution to 18 victims and to perform 60 hours of community service as conditions of her probation.
The thefts occurred between January and April 2013.
The U.S. Postal Service launched an investigation into the thefts after receiving multiple complaints from people saying they had used the Abington branch office in the 1900 block of Keith Road to mail envelopes containing gift cards and cash. While the recipients of these mailings received the mail, they reported that the gift cards or cash placed in the envelopes were missing.
A U.S. Postal Service special agent determined that several of the Target gift cards reported stolen were used toward the $275 purchase of a television at the Target in Cheltenham.
