Every year, millions of mailpieces never make it to their intended destination because the recipient’s addresses are incorrect, illegible or missing.
So Granny Upchurch of Chattanooga, TN, was amazed when she received a letter from her 8-year-old granddaughter — even though the little girl didn’t include Upchurch’s city, state, ZIP Code or return address.
Someone in the Postal Service went above and beyond to ensure my granddaughter’s card made it to my mailbox,” Upchurch wrote in a recent letter to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
In many cases, mail deemed undeliverable winds up at the Postal Service’s “lost and found” facility — the Mail Recovery Center in Atlanta. Not so this time, thanks to the diligence of the Postal Service employees who handled Upchurch’s letter.
“Thanks USPS for taking the time to find my town and deliver it. You not only made my day, but thrilled an 8-year-old who thought her special card was gone for good,” Upchurch wrote.
USPS News Link Story – Amazing delivery.
hey even a broken clock is right twice a day! that was one tough snail!
It helps when you have a Regular Carrier on a route that knows everything about their route!
We need more positive coverage to show the public that in spite of all the negative news of the USPS from top to bottom there are those who do care and do what they can to deliver quality service. Even our local supervisors have spent time on the phone trying to locate correct addresses for parcels missing street or apartment numbers and letters that are poorly addressed. Not to imply they wouldn’t, it’s just that at least in our office they’re on the run all day.
I’ve done many similar deeds, including finding money in a driveway I was positive belonged to a customer and putting it in his mailbox with a note explaining where I found it. Plus, how many of us have called 911 or police when a patron was in trouble? Don’t just dismiss us as junk dealers. There are a lot of folks out there who are glad their carrier came along when he or she did.
