ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES AND VERA TIMELINES UPDATED
USPS has released an updated timetable for employees affected by the recently announced staffing reductions and district closings and for those who are considering the Postal Service’s voluntary early retirement (VER) offer.
The Postal Service has begun mailing notification to all VER-eligible employees. You should note that the VER application deadline and irrevocability date stated in the VER Offer packets have been changed. The new date is June 19. Correction letters will be mailed this week to all VER-eligible employees who received an annuity estimate and VER Offer packet.
The next key date on the RIF-avoidance front is April 28, when Phase 1 of the job posting process begins. On that date, eligible employees can begin applying for job vacancies within affected limited areas of competition.
Click here to review all key dates in the RIF organizational changes. Click here for the VER timeline on Blue. The VER timeline is also available on LiteBlue. Affected employees can use this information to help them through the process.
Meanwhile, USPS is urging employees interested in competing for upcoming district-wide vacancies, whether or not they’re impacted, to create or update a profile in the eCareer system as soon as possible.
Eligible employees can apply for vacancies online at http://ecareer.usps.gov from any postal and non-postal computer. You’ll need your 8-digit Employee Identification Number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) if you log on from a non-postal computer. If you’ve forgotten your PIN, follow the prompts on LiteBlue to reset

stayin’ til I die makin’ their blood pressure high
The RIF is happening right now. Managers are losing their jobs at the end of April. They started at HQ & moved down. Not everyone will be riffed. Some will have to take a DSR Discontinued Service Retirment (no severance pay). The are a lot of reasons the USPS is failing. However, instead of blaming everyone lets get on the path to reorganizing this agency or there won’t be one. Yes the good ole boys club needs to be thrown out. However, we can only hope a few of them will be thrown out. The Politics never end. We are just that much closer to going private. Look at the big picture. We will all be out of jobs or hired back at a low hourly salry with no benefits. Quit whinning & think of a better solution. Look at all the people that are being affected right now. Moving employees craft & supervision up to 500 miles away from their offices & homes. Ask them how they feel. I am grateful to have my job for now. Nothing is permanent. I have 37 years & would like an incentive to leave as a CSRS but it won’t happen even though they want to get rid of CSRS employees. TO SG143 You have the right to request a disability retirement up to one year after your reg retirement. The annuity estimates are just that estimates. The estimates are based on everything being perfect such as no long term LWOP, etc. That is what the second page on the annuity estimate explains & usually no one reads the second page. Unfortunetly (OPM) Office of Personnel Management is the agency that must finalize our retirments. OPM can’t finalize the retirements until after we retire & then let us know what we will receive.

Elvis has left the building…
i hang around. i despise the people i work with now.runners,suck-ups. snitches, backstabbers.people that throw and go ,stop-skippers. now let me tell u about mgt.
The Post Office is a result of poor planning, greed and letting the good-ole-boys run the show with their buddies. Automation killed the PO and created a demand we could not keep up with. Before DPS the PO was doing very well and workers were happy and content. Now we hate each other for pressures created by demands that human cannot meet. We need to start over again, get rid of the upper management whom created this mess and get back to serving the public.
I have worked here for 29 years and have seen the entire changes take place. There was a time when I could leave my wallet on the break room table overnight and it would still be there in the morning with all of the money in it. I have 5 years to go and only wish I was going to retire with a smile on my face and pride in my chest. If things keep going the way they are, I won’t reach my retirement age of 55. When I see the area manager in my district making 165K it makes me sick to think that all of the funds wasted on over paid assholes have run this fine company in the ground.
I dreamed of the Pony Express as a boy and how adventurous it must have been to ride through the plains carrying letters to loved ones. The day I became a letter carrier was one of the best days of my life. The letter carrier that delivered the mail to the house I grew up in and still my parent’s house was working there and he remembered me. I delivered mail to that same route for 3 years and would eat lunch with my parents every day. What a shame that all of these dreams and memories will end poorly.
I hope and pray all of you are prepared for what’s to come because it aint going to be pretty.
5 years and CSRS boys…
Hey “manager”, BLOW ME.
Manager sounds like there is little left to cheat employees out of so does what they always do try to get the few who work to cover for their inability to make the others work. disrespect for people at its best.
To all the Management bashers… Shut the Hell up and get back to work.
That’s right, Jake. Every single csrs left would go NOW if they 80 percented us.
The proposed RIF is affecting the group that should be affected – management- who does not serve any useful purpose, does no productive work, and places an unnecessary drain on resources needed (money) to conduct postal business. Show at least half the door, and require the rest to actually EARN their pay.
potter can afford his bonus. im short 1yr.3 months 53yrs old just dont penalize me. im outta here otherwise its tough.
We want 80% those with 33 years plus.
They will still save money and everyone
will be happy.
Due to health problems, I took the VERA in 2008. My annuity estimate was low but I thought it was a better option than trying to fight for disability.
When my final package arrived in January 2009, it was a full $200.00 lower than the estimate sent in the original packet. I have every document to prove this. $200 is a fairly large amount of money when you are retired. Prior to the deadline, I did request an individual retirement counseling session, but all they would agree to was the group-phone counseling session. I feel that I was totally ripped off. I filed a review with OPM but likely won’t get any results. I
Papa
If the Postal Service could remove the 2% from CSRS it would already be done. This takes a congressional bill and Pres signature to be done. It will not be done because it will apply to all CSRS not just Postal Workers.
is it worth the bs for 200 more amonth for 3 yrs. the guy beside me just had bypass surgery and two have died. damned if u do damned if u dont.
I’ll go with $25,000.00 & waive my 7% penalty. Otherwise I’ll just add to my 32 years as a CSRS. RIF me & it’ll cost ya $50,000.00. Cut you’re nose to spite the face & offer a real OUT. Otherwise me thinks I stay around & let mismgmt make me a wad of dough$$$$$
If 75% of stupidvisors were eliminated…who would miss them? Nobody, Service then could be restored to a degree. Do It!!!
If the PO is truly serious in force reduction and offering the VERA all over again, they should consider No Penalty for those under 30yrs of service and will not opt for their health benefits and or, at least 6 months of lump sum and its almost a guarantee that a lot of employees are gonna go for it….pls. share this with upper mgmt as a powerful tool for their RIF process…
NO ONE IS GOING ANYWHERE!!!
IN FACT EVERYONE AFFECTED WILL GET A LEVEL INCREASE!
WHICH MEANS MORE PAY FOR THEM!
most RIF are just a way to move people around some will be guaranteed pay at their current grade for two years and they must find and apply for a position within that grade to keep it if they ar level five and place in level 2 and except hat position they will take the reduction in pay. if place in grede two and dont accept they will continue to draw level 5 for up to two years. you must accept a position are face possible lay offs. I was rif
Incentives will never be offered because on a number of occasions the PO has stated in official memo’s that under no circumstances will there ever be a cash Incentive. They offer one now, and all the employee’s over the past year would file a class action lawsuit asking relief because they were given misleading info into making their decision to retire. Nothing new for the PO, but it was still misleading! Also I hate to bring this up but retired FERS employees also need to be made whole on Sick Leave credit. This was a discriminatory practice used against FERS employees for years. CSRS employees always got credit for un-used Sick leave credit. I know of some Lawyers who are just waiting to see if the PO will go with a Last Minute Cash Incentive. It could get very ugly because it just doesn’t include Postal Employees but all Federal Retiree’s !
ok so
Be patient my fair minded Postal Workers the language has changed and could be leading to a VERA offer with incentives. Read Article 6 of the National Agreement for RIF Procedures. After you read the Agreement then read Para 435 of Chapter 4 of the current ELM.
I do not believe upper management is quite the morons you think they are.
Notice how they have timed the notice of the rif to coincide with the VER.
Many supervisors have been told they are going to lose their positions. Nothing definite just enough to scare the hell out of them.
Many supervisors will take the VER because they are scared and feel it will be their only chance to salvage something prior to a possible rif.
I do not believe an actual rif will ever occur and if it does those who are rif’d will be given severence pay. I would hold out until I was rif’d and take severence with a deferred retirement over being scared into doing something I didn’t want to do.
You can thank a clerk for this post.
I second that emotion. Total incompetents (morons).
Sweeten the deal with a least 25K and I’m outta here.
I laugh at the management morons that are running
this “VERA”…just exactly WHO do they expect to
take them up on their “terrific offer” this time?
Outside of normal attrition rate of people who have
PLANNED to retire in this time frame, the only way
that you could EVER possibly get the number of
employees they need to retire is to offer an
incentive…and because of their “prison guard”
mindset, they will not do that.
Morons. Complete Morons.
But then, we already knew that…
