Northeast Massachusetts APWU Local Urges NO Vote On Tentative Agreement

PostalReporter.com received the following message:

The Northeast Massachusetts has put together a list of issues contained in the new National Contract proposal that National APWU leadership is not addressing. It is the view of this local that this new contract proposal does grave damage to the rights of present members. It basically undermines all the gains of the APWU agreed to in past contracts. Please read the attached flyer and be aware of the potential harm this contract can do if ratified.  Download PDF

  2. The APWU should be embarressed to presnt this contract to it’s membership for ratification. I work in the northeast, where the cost of living is such where I am just getting by working 40 hours a week, with the wife being a full time teacher. Now the people who “represent” me want me to vote for a contract that will decrease my pay by 25%?….REALLY!? We have six years left on our mortgage, and we will be in real danger of loosing our house if this contract is ratified, and I am sure there are many other union brothers and sisters who are in the same boat.
There are other things I am willing to give up. Lets face it, we go to work every day at the P.O. to support our families, not because it’s a fun place to work. The way we are treated on a daily basis by management is degrading at best. If the means of supporting my family is taken away, what is the point? We have 5 weeks of vacation every year…give some of that back. I see bosses on the phone more often than I see them working…make them more accountable for thier time.
We need to organize as a group and vote NO on this contract. my e-mail address is flyfisherman1111@yahoo.com. Lets get together in here somewhere and talk about this. E-mail me, we’ll set up a chat room somewhere and try to find a way to get out the “no vote”.
Maybe national needs to know that we see through this sell out of an offer. Maybe they need to know that some of us will have to stop paying dues because we no longer feel that warm blanket of representation. Not that we want to, but we may have to, just to pay the bills.

  3. I have been looking for someone to explain the fine details, because the “highlights” provided by APWU were so general, and I couldn’t get to the truth by reading the legalize of the contract. After reading this, which was NOT user friendly, I hope that more voting members will have an opportunity to really see how much we are giving away & how little USPS is giving up. We all know that management is getting fat off of USPS, now, we can see that National APWU wants a piece of that action too. There are reports that 80% of USPS expenses are workforce, but no one ever breaks that down in to what % goes to the labors that actually do the work vs what % goes to management. If that were ever revealed, I think that the source of USPS’s financial problems would become obvious.
