USPS this Sunday will replace its Product Tracking System (PTS) with “PTS II,” designed to maintain the momentum and growth of the Postal Service’s scanning and tracking capabilities.
The Postal Service implemented the legacy system in 1997 to provide limited tracking and to confirm delivery events. Since then, scanning’s growth has exploded, with more than 2.7 billion additional events in fiscal year 2013 compared to the same time last year.
With the Postal Service’s emergence as a major competitor in the package arena, PTS II has the speed and capacity the organization needs to provide near real-time data to support a projected 128 billion scans by 2018.
Reliable performance is built into PTS II to provide product visibility with end-to-end tracking events. With the new, user-friendly PTS II intranet site, archived records are readily available .Customers also have the ability to view the Internet and intranet within the PTS II website.
The changeover will be transparent to external customers, who will be able to continue tracking shipments the same as before, but with faster response and with more scan events.
