Alabama Postal Worker charged with stealing gift cards worth $60 from the mail

uspsoigBIRMINGHAM – A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted a U.S. Postal Service employee for stealing gift cards from the mail, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and Special Agent in Charge Maximo Eamiguel, Southern Area Field Office, United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General.

A two-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges TERRILL CHATMAN, 48, of Birmingham, with theft of mail by a Postal Service employee in September and October of 2015. According to the indictment, Terrill Chatman stole a $50 Publix gift card from the mail in Birmingham in September 2015, and the next month stole a $10 Walmart gift card.

The maximum penalty for theft of mail by a Postal Service employee is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The Postal Service Office of Inspector General investigated the case, which Assistant U.S. Attorney Davis Barlow is prosecuting.

An indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

    We have supervisors and Post Masters getting physical with craft employees and they’re going to slay someone with a grand jury over $60???

  2. I read recently, a postal supervisor was charged with stealing $7000 cash out of the mail.

    As a sentence, she got one year unsupervised probation, and a $300 fine.

    Think this craft employee will get off that easy ?

    Neither do I.
