Heroic Clerk to receive Letter of Thanks Personally signed by Postmaster General
A brief ceremony honoring an Idaho Falls postal clerk for his quick action in rescuing an elderly customer from being scammed. His quick action saved the customer $900. The clerk will be presented with a letter of thanks personally signed by the Postmaster General in front of his peers.
Idaho Falls Retail Associate Troy Wiseman recognizes fraud when he hears it. So when an elderly customer requested his help in filling out a Priority Mail Express label, but asked him to leave blank the payable information on the two money orders totaling $900, bells and whistles started going off in his head.
Living up to his last name, and concerned the customer was being scammed, Wiseman discussed the situation with his supervisor who contacted the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS). The USPIS investigated the transaction and returned the $900 in money orders to the customer.
The customer was thankful for Wiseman’s care and concern.
“I was just doing my job,” said a humble Wiseman.
Supervisor, Customer Services Michael Fugh is quick to praise Wiseman.
“Troy does a great job up at the retail window and is always on the lookout for the elderly so they don’t get scammed,” said Fugh.
Each year, postal employees go beyond the call of duty, some even risking their own safety to save the lives of the customers they serve. In Fiscal Year 2018, the Postal Service recognized 243 heroic employees.
