Mail carrier pulled from truck after head-on crash causes it to burst into flames

A mail carrier was badly injured Monday evening after being pulled from a truck that had caught fire following a head-on crash, the Laurel Fire Department said.

First responders were dispatched to Laurel Road, just before Old Stage Road, at 5:21 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a mail truck and another vehicle had crashed. The mail truck was on fire, the caller said.

Before fire and EMS officials could arrive, two bystanders were able to pull the mail carrier from the truck.

Fire personnel who then arrived on scene extinguished the truck blaze, which destroyed the vehicle.
