Postal Service authorized to offer voluntary early retirement
It’s official.
The Postal Service has received approval from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to offer voluntary early retirement to employees in clerk, mail handler, supervisor of distribution operations and supervisor of customer services positions nationwide.
Automation and technological advances coupled with mail volume reductions has the Postal Service continuing to look for ways to voluntarily reduce its workforce while maintaining excellent customer service.
Details of the program are still being developed and will be announced later. No incentive package will be offered for employees who choose early retirement.
Only people that are due to go in the next year or so will take it. Most people cannot afford to go. I doubt we see 5000 take it. And postal management is still a pile a doggy do do..
I’m out that door so fast, you won’t even see my shadow. . .
I pray to the Lord they offer it to the carriers. . .the sooner, the better!
If all USPS employees would hold off their re-
tirement plans that would force a financial offer from the US Postal Service. If you do not wait then all you are doing is giving up’
monetary security for yourselves. Make a smart and educated move for your families.
This amounts to nothing more than a give back to the PO. If thet realy wanted to cut the work force, all they have to do is offer a 5 year add on and just watch the people that would take it.

Great timing on VERA, for alot of folks, including myself. But this will not help
the P.O solve it’s money problems, due to
unsound Mgt decisions on a daily basis.
