From National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)
The Postal Service has informed President Young that city letter carriers will be included in its new Voluntary Early Retirement offer. The timing for VER applications and deadline for action has not been set, but it will have the same terms as the 2008 “early out” program, Young said. That means there will be no financial incentives, and annuities will be reduced for those who take the offer. Other details are pending. See The Postal Record report on last year’s VER here, and the initial USPS announcement here.
I missed this early out offer by 55 days. Any idea when the next one will come around? I am ready to bail now but I guess I can wait.
I accepted the early out andretired as a CSRS Carrier with 30 years service. I had been called intio active duty service for 8 years with 3+ years in combat zones. The USPS called me frequently tryingto get me to resign because I was gone too long. I had to educate them that Title 10 time did not count as being away. To makea long story short, I have a six figure job working with the DOD and would not gone back to the idiots at the USPS anyhow…but know I have my retirement also. The management is retarded, but sometimes you can make that work for you!
Early out, yeah soon as I hit the lottery. Can’t wait to call out RICH!
Hey, you are my kind of folks!!
Postaal Management is “Raping the USPS” Million dollar bonus here and there; News of 78 million in moving perks. We all know Management doesn’t even have work hours. In Shawnee ,Ks. their only Boast is having more Stomaches Stapled olperations than anywhere else. The inspection service is called the most corrupt organization by our local Dept. of Labor. Yet they too rape the USPS out of millions with their 007 wannabees.
With 3 decades under my belt, we won’t leave. At least I produce! Management does not!
Why all the whining? If you want to take the early out, take it. If you don’t want to take the early out, don’t take it. End of story.
look no farther than the NALC, APWU, and other crap, I mean craft unions to find who ran the PO into the ground. The best thing about the PO going out of business will be watching all the former craft employees (who know so much about how to run a company) work the door at Walmart, bagging groceries, picking up trash on the side of the roads. Nasty to say, yes… but reading this crap on these boards, you a***holes have no idea how good you’ve had it-it’ll all be over soon. Let’s see you go out and make more money doing less. In the real world, if you don’t produce results, you get fired…
duh..its da liburls fawlt.
why does the postal service operate outside the realm of reality. why voluntarily retire and struggle financially when we can stay here, sit on our a$$es, and wait for the economy to recover. how long did they meet to come up with a VER offer? how many drinks did they have before they settled on this bulls##t?
we are free to leave at any time
I accepted the previous VERA and am glad I did because being close to 56 and a FERS employee I will begin receiving the FERS Suppliment in October. That was incentive enough for me. My advice remains the same, if you are a FERS employee at or close to your MRA of between 55 & 57 and can afford to leave, then go. The FERS Suppliment in itself is anywhere between a $650 to $750 monthly incentive until age 62, think about it. Things are only going to get worse for carriers with longer routes and DPS flats on the way. Good luck with your decision even though I know that 99% of you are going to stay.
By eliminating 150,000 people and 6 offices the USPS expects to save 100 milion dollars this year, and will not adversely affect customer service and mail delivery. Last year it lost 5.1 billion dollars. $100M dollars is less than 2% of the one year loss. Not much of a band-aid to fix the problem. At that rate it will take 51 years to break even!
In 1992 an early out was offered an incentive of 6 months salary. About 48,000 took them up on the offer. USPS spent over a billion dollars towards incentive pay + restructuring that year. USPS says to have saved about $800 million in 1993 and $1.4 billion in 1994. Of course, OT went up and non-career employees increased.
And “Anonymous” today is right about Potter and his “big money.” Did you know that our PMG got a 40% salary hike last year? On Feb. 17, ABC News reported: “Potter’s base salary went from $186,000 in 2007 to more than $260,000 last year. On top of that, an incentive bonus of $135,000. Add in retirement benefits and other perks, total compensation was more than $850,000.” With the poor shape of the USPS, questions certainly need to be raised about Potter’s pay.
I am leaving May 2010 no matter what the po offers. Had enough of the bs. I am going out with 72%. See ya
No no, I’m sorry they probably modified that program the tells you how long your office and street times should be too decide on how to handle this early out. We all know how accurate that is. And it told them that everyone would be stupid enough to accept their offer this time, what with the strong economy and all.
Pure genius. Two months after the last early out nobody wanted they offer the exact same deal. But what can you expect from the people who took a two centuries plus institution and ran it into the ground. My guess is they probably paid some special group a bazillion dollars to come up with this one.
Sorry, should have been 30 Years of Service!
Let’s see, Incentive? Isn’t that where someone wants you to do something for them? So you want me to lose 6% of my Retirement (52 years old, 3 years of Service) so you can LET me Retire? “Yes Sir, may I have another??”. I didn’t take it last time, but hey, they offered it AGAIN! How much Kool-Aid to have to drink again? Wow!!
2 1/2 Years and I get it all (if anythings left!)
Get a Clue USPS!
potter is getting his big money when he leaves and he not working 30 years. all ways a slap in the face for the employee.
Maybe they could sell some of the million dollar homes they bought and use that money to keep employees.
How is this a volutary early retirement??? Again all this is, is someone going out the door. If you offer nothing, then the only ones going would already have gone on their own anyway. Wake the f— up!
geez, these ranters could at least make some sense. it’s like listening to my supervisor.
once again are the bigwigs taking the early out HELL NO!!!they will stay get their yearly bonuses and their six figure salaries!!! retire stay on days weekends off while they disrupt the poor working slob!! when they do retire peces level full medical fully paid sick leave that’s right if they have 2,000 hours they are paid in full!!! fully paid annual leave no cap on what they carry over can be moved 3 times i the continental US for free!!! HEY WHERE’S THE UNION!!!! mailhandler pres haggarty besides postal salary makes 208,000 a year!!! 90 other officials make 90,000 or better go to unionfacts.com they are all in bed together!!!!!
If I would take a 12% hit, and that will only give me 46% after the calculations, if I stay 6 more years, I will get around 70%. So why would I go, I have a nice condo route that I’ve been on for 13 years. So big deal if they add some more building on me, it’s more money at Christmas time.
Maybe they will get a few more to go with this offer. What a crock of crap. If they really want people to go, just offer the CSRS employees 80% to go, no penalty’s, and they don’t have to give any money to go.
Another empty offer. Postal execs, get a life
i didn’t accept their empty offer last year, why would i accept the same offer now….come on PO….sweeten the deal!
Mike, are you kidding me that’s the way those morons think. You know the definition of insanity don’t you?
Don’t belive it. Article looks fake. There are some people out there that take pleasure in posting fake articles. I too will wait for the oficial announcement. Why would they offer the same thing a few months later and really expect different results in a very tough economy. If the answer was no a few months ago 99% chance its no now.
Who would want to leave this place? Are you kidding me? The way managment treats the craft around here it’s beautiful. Weekly craft/ mgt meetings on bettering the workplace and mutual cooperation among ALL. What can they do for us and us for them? It’s never been better. Huh? What the…Oh sh#% it’s the alarm clock. Time to get back to the real world. Oh f%$# another day of postal life. 3.5 more years of this place.UGH
Hold out for more. Milk ’em dry.Hell no we won’t go!!!!
Yeah, there would be no disruption in service due to these cuts…DUH
cut the other 85% & you still won’t see any effect to service.
Restore Service back to the people give citizens what they deserve, the best.End the GROSS MISMANAGEMENT
patience my friend… the postal service brain trust works very slow!!!!
again a slap in the face to civil service workers
