USPS collects national PR awards

The Postal Service has been recognized with several national communications awards.

USPS picked up a Platinum PR award for the Purple Heart with Ribbon Forever Stamp Dedication Speech, andreceived Honorable Mentions in two additional categories. The awards, sponsored by the news and multimedia company PR Newswire, are among the most prestigious in the communications field.

“These coveted awards set the industry benchmark for excellence across all areas of communications and public relations,” said DPMG Ron Stroman. “I’m proud that the Postal Service, and specifically our Corporate Communications Department, is a recipient.”

The Purple Heart with Ribbon speech was written by Speechwriter Bob Anderson and edited by Speechwriting and Publications Manager Yvonne Yoerger. Anderson, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, has since retired.

The Postal Service was a finalist in the video and external publication categories, for:

    • Systems at Work, created by Producer/Director Matt Zappile and managed by Multimedia Communications and National Events Manager Nick Sucich. The video is part of a Smithsonian National Postal Museum permanent exhibit.

  • Postal Facts 2011, created by Sr. Public Relations Specialist Sue Brennan and contract Designer Maciej Zajac; and managed by Sr. Public Relations Manager Susan McGowen and Brand and Policy Manager by Kevin Coleman.

While other government departments were recognized for work created by external firms, USPS was the only federal agency that was recognized for work produced by its own, in-house staff.
