Issa Statement on USPS Reversal of Decision to Modify Six-Day Delivery
WASHINGTON – House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., issued the following statement in response to the United States Postal Service announcement that it has reversed its decision to pursue modified Saturday delivery:
“I am disappointed that the Postal Service has backed away from plans to implement a modified Saturday delivery schedule that polling indicates the American people understand and support. This reversal significantly undercuts the credibility of Postal officials who have told Congress that they were prepared to defy political pressure and make difficult but necessary cuts.
“Just a few months ago, when USPS announced that it would alter Saturday delivery service, it made no mention that this change could only occur if Congress eliminated an old and well-known provision of law. Despite some assertions, it’s quite clear that special interest lobbying and intense political pressure played a much greater role in the Postal Service’s change of heart than any real or perceived barrier to implementing what had been announced.
“While I will continue to work on comprehensive postal reform legislation that can pass both the House and Senate, this reversal will clearly be a setback to such efforts.”
Hey Bob if you do your research it was the rebuplicans who voted to keep the continuing resolution not the democrats … Don’t be lazy and look it up yourself!
Keep voting democrat and you won’t have to worry about the USPS because you won’t have a country left even to recognize
Issa continues to simply lie making erroneous claims that the general public wants USPS delivery of mail to be reduced to 5 days. Democrats and republicans should call Issa out regarding these lies. Issa is interested in one plan–to privatize the Postal Service and give it over to corporate greed hounds. If that happens, Issa will likely assist to orchestrate the destruction of mail service to residential suburban and rural Americans. Make no mistake, Issa cares nothing about the continuation of middle class paying jobs. Issa wants to reward his corporate buddies so they can rape the profits off the top, hire low wage workers with NO BENEFITS, give all the deals to urban densely populated cities and end delivery services to more costly residential and rural americans. If Issa and his corporate cronies are successful, the corporate postal owners will provide the bargain to the densely urban cities, big business and those that funnel money to the right wing political machine and not subsidize the price of doing postal business for the suburban residential and rural delivery. What then is next. In the first year, maybe the second after privatization, your letter carrier will be no more. The last letter to be delivered will be notice that door-to-door and home mailbox deliveries will no longer be provided. You in the residential and rural areas will then likely be told that you can go to a general delivery building and pick up your mail there without a care for the elderly disabled or for anyone else. Then, the corporate owners will likely tell you all that you only need to come to pick up your mail two or three days a week–you don’t need mail delivery into these general delivery boxes 4, 5 and 6 days a week. If they continue door-to-door and rural mailbox-to-rural mailbox to continue, it will cost 5 times what a stamp would otherwise cost because they will not subsidize a stamp’s cost through its much cheaper city/urban delivery. SO IF THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT, CONTINUE TO BE LIED TO BY ISSA AND COMPANY AND CONTINUE TO VOTE REPUBLICAN!
Hey Sara I’m sure your a democrat who believes everybody is in the system but only half us pay into. So spread your wealth… Your union dues and pay my fair share… I thought you democrats believe in choice ( but is that only in abortion) so it’s my choice to join your club or not… So Sara I guess you won’t ever take annual on Saturday ?
Hagee, stop being a scab and quit if you don’t like it. You clearly take the benefits the union fought for without paying for them. At least lazy ass union members pay their dues.
Studies by outside agencies have been down, determining that 2 billion dollars would not be saved. Quite the contrary, it would put USPS further in the hole. I wonder if you would call me a moron if I was standing in front of you punk.
It also mentions pay cuts and job losses… So now we will be working Saturdays with a pay cut… But there still will be lazy ass union members who advocated for Saturday delivery and still call on sick every chance they can on Saturday… Hypocrites…. USPS will go bankrupt and your union contract won’t be worth the paper it’s written on
So rather than let the USPS survive, the cowards at the BOG AND PMG just did what congress already has. They just kicked the can down the road. But don’t worry, that day of reckoning is coming faster than you think……morons.
The best news I heard in a long time. 6 day delivery forever!!! It has to be!!
Issa continues to state that the most American’s support 5 day delivery. He neglects to mention that the elimination of Saturday delivery is the least distasteful option given to those polled. Increased stamp and parcel prices, the closing of some local Post Offices two or more days per week and the closing of some offices permanently were the other choices. Most Americans are ignorant of the PAEA. Of course that’s not part of the polling. He chastises Postal management for refusing to defy in his words ” A well known provision of law”. A legislator who calls for the circumvention of law. He claims he will continue to work on comprehensive Postal reform legislation but this decision is a setback. Issa is determined to destroy this organization, but this time he got knocked on his ass.
WHY IS ISSA COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS WHEN CONGRESS HOLDS THE POWER TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEY CREATED IN THE FIRST PLACE..
GET YOUR FINGERS OUT OF YOUR HINDSIDE AND STOP WASTING EVERONE`S MONEY AND GAS ON DELIVERING JUNK MAIL ON SATURDAYS…..95% OF ALL MAIL IS PURE AND SIMPLE ADVERTISEMENTS….STOP THE WASTE AND DOOOO SOMETHING
perhaps postal workers nationwide could send poor darrell issa a crying towel! my heart really goes out to the clown. i know how deeply he wants to stick it to the working man, especially the unionized working man, and this decision sets poor issa back.
Since when does this company or the country for that matter kowtow to the polling gods?? We are not political creatures with our finger in the breeze, we are the USPS delivering daily to every house EVERYDAY.If Issa wants to run his political operation by the ebb and flow of the polling numbers, then let him do so. He’s from a district where everyone either depends on Uncle Sam for a paycheck from the DoD budget or a retirement check from the VA or regular Armed services. They are all Neuvo Rednecks now that they are retired military, but their bread is buttered by the TAXPAYER! They wail about welfare, but they collect it in the form of a check of some sort. The Northeast depends on transfer payments in the form of retirement and disability checks, and the Southwest is no different. The source is the same. UNCLE SAM. So stop your holier than thou attitude! We’re all in this together. Gen X, Y, and Z.
