NALC President Young: No Decision Yet On Extending Early Out Offer To Letter Carriers

From the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)

President Young told delegates at the NALC Convention in Boston last week that “very little has been decided” about the possibility the Postal Service will extend to city letter carriers its pending “Voluntary Early Retirement” program for clerks, mail handlers and their supervisors. Young, who is in close contact with USPS on the issue, emphasized that if there is an “early out” offer to city letter carriers, it would be limited and not likely to occur before 2009. Even with the advent of flat sorting equipment and the decline in volume, he reminded the delegates there are still 145 million delivery points that need service by carriers. If any substantial information becomes available, members will be notified promptly, President Young said

  2. Hi my fellow carriers, just wondering what the date for the carrier early out is. At first I heard Feb 28,2009, now via a telecom that a fellow carrier heard last week that is not the date. Anyone know the correct retirement date?

really want to get out, but am short about 25 days. A later date would suit me just fine. The place is going down the tubes fast.

    thanks

    thanks

  3. LETTER CARRIERS WILL GET EARLY OUT as initially indicated. USPS is awaiting OPM approved which is routine and ALWAYS given. NALC Prez Young is just blowing smoke when he said EO for carriers hasn’t been decided yet. It has! The Po has requested it and OPM will approve it.

  4. I think it is sooooo unfair that letter carriers are being left out of the early out. If they are going to offer an early out, it should be offered across the board to all employees.

Also, why can’t they keep carriers informed on whether there will absolutely be no early out, if there is still a possibility and negotiations are continuing, and when we can expect to know for sure. I’d just like to start some planning.

  5. Please Get the Early outs!! Going, I’m sick and Tired ! of the dam Senior carriers whining “I want this ! ” & “I deserve that!” Everybody with 25 + !! GO HOME!!

  6. I use to love working for the post office, but now i am ashamed to tell people. what has happened to this great organization? stupid and greedy managers have run this great historic organization into the ground with bad finacial moves. what a shame…

  7. It freakin’ figures The craft that busts it butt the most and has the most injuries can’t catch a break! I guess guys like us in their 50’s, will just have get a little more crippled. The co called” obselete craft ‘ clerks, always walks away with the best money awards while the NALC get;s us diddly. Everybody gets an early out but us! If we are so important to the Postal Service that they won;t let us go, Why does the union let them treat us like crap?
