Over 300 western Siskiyou County residents are currently unable to get their mail. Augustine Ruiz, spokesperson for the US Postal Service, says the Beaver Fire has cut off everyone in the 96097 zip code. Ruiz explains that, “The Klamath River post office is open, however Hwy 96 is closed, so no mail can get in or out at this time. So mail is being held for those people at the Yreka post office. They just need to show proper identification.”
Meanwhile, in eastern Siskiyou County, the Macdoel and Dorris post offices are operating, but will be slow to receive mail due to the closure of Highway 97.
Fire is also obstructing mail delivery in Shasta County. The Eiler fire has caused power outages at the Old Station post office. “So mail for Old Station is being diverted through Shingletown,” says Ruiz. “And we have two postmasters who normally work out of different offices that are working out of one office to get mail up for those particular customers.”

Mail Diverted to Alternate Post Offices
All addresses for ZIP Code 96050, including 81 PO Boxes and 192 addresses are affected by current fire conditions in Northern California. Customers with proper photo ID can pick up their mail at the Yreka Post Office 96097. All addresses on Hwy 96 after turning left from Hwy 263 are being held at the Yreka Post Office.
Yreka Post Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Closed Saturdays.
Fire conditions have also affected mail delivery and access to the Cassel Post Office 96016 and Hat Creek Post Office 96040. If able, Postmasters are being instructed to report to the Burney Post Office 96013. The Burney Post Office is currently serving as the alternate access for customers to pick up their mail and will be released to customers showing proper identification.
The power is out at Old Station 96071 Post Office and mail for Old Station is being transported from Redding to Shingletown 96088, which is the nearest office to Old Station. The Postmaster of Old Station and Shingletown are coordinating mail distribution out of the Shingletown Post Office.
The Post Offices of Macdoel 96058 and Dorris 96023 are currently open, but mail to these offices will be delayed due to the closure of Hwy 97 east of Weed 96094.
The Burney Post Office is under advisory evacuations but not mandatory at this time. Fall River, Mc Arthur, Nubieber, Bieber, Lookout, Adin, and Canby will all receive mail today. Due to the closure of Hwy 299 from Burney to Hwy 89 JCT, mail to Johnson Park is currently being held back. In the event that Burney must be evacuated, mail operations will be moved to the Montgomery Creek Post Office
