Police chase involving stolen U.S. Postal Service truck ends in crash

A U.S. Postal Service truck was stolen from the Sturgis post office and led police on a wild, high-speed pursuit late Sunday.

Around 9:30 p.m., White Pigeon police spotted the truck near the intersection of U.S. 12 and Lutz Road.

When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver headed west on U.S. 12 at high speed.

The driver drove through a red light at U.S. 131, nearly striking another vehicle. Speed reached 80 mph as the driver continued into Mottville.

While fleeing on U.S. 12, the White Pigeon officer backed away from the chase when the driver began to swerve into oncoming traffic.

The pursuit continued into Cass County, then into Elkhart County, Ind.

The chase ended when the postal truck struck a large post. The driver fled on foot.

  1. What moron would want to steal one of these pieces of crap? Give em life for being stupid. The other option would be to make the offender deliver mail and work off the debt, but that may be considered cruel and unusual punishment.
