Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) spoke with Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation” yesterday on how the government has reshaped itself in the two years since President Obama took office and cites certain areas where spending can be cut back in order to lower the country’s deficit.

McCain Said,

“The Post Office- a model of inefficiency- horse and buggies in days of when Internets [sic] and communications have basically replacing it more and more we have to go after the sacred cows..You and I could write the solution to Social Security problems on the back of an envelope,” McCain told Schieffer. “What we have to do is sit down together and go through those remedies. Medicare is going to be much more difficult. But we have to go after the sacred cows and we have to go after entitlements.

It is no secret that McCain favors privatization of federal jobs.

Also in 2009, McCain showed his lack of knowledge about USPS by saying, USPS owes taxpayers billions of dollars:

Until the Postal Service no longer owes American taxpayers billions of dollars, I request that you refrain from spending limited Postal Service resources on unnecessary items such as engraved albums showcasing commemoratives stamps for members of Congress and instead focus on moving the Postal Service to fiscal solvency

How can Congress help “fix” the Postal Service when many of its members are unaware as to how USPS operates or how it’s funded. The Postal Service clearly states in its communications and reports:

 The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations
