Wisconsin’s first Village Post Office (VPO) now is open — in the Marshall, WI, Library. It’s the 139th VPO in the country and the second one located in a public library.
At the official opening event, Lakeland District Post Office Operations Manager Sue Janczak and Marshall Library Board President Phillip Braithwaite thanked those in attendance for their support.
The event featured a commemoration of the Sealed with Love Forever stamp — with a dozen young children making Valentine’s Day cards and mailing them using the stamp.
Library Director Diana Skalitzky commended USPS for the VPO program. “Libraries must reinvent how they provide services as patrons’ needs change,” she said. “So I applaud the Postal Service for what they are doing. They’re going where their customers are.”
USPS introduced the VPO in 2011 to expand its retail locations. Operated by local businesses contracting with USPS, they offer a range of popular products and services such as stamps and flat-rate packaging. Wisconsin is the 27th state in the U.S. to provide expanded access to postal customers by opening a VPO.
Seven more VPOs in Wisconsin are expected to open by the end of March.
