CARNEGIE (KDKA) — A postal employee making his rounds in Carnegie Borough was attacked by two men Thursday afternoon, when one of the suspects slammed him over the back with an aluminum baseball bat.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wabash Avenue.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was treated at St. Clair Hospital.

Ron Hatcher, who lives near the scene of the assault, told KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti, “The mailman told me the two guys came out of nowhere, real quick. He told me they wanted his wallet, but they didn’t get it.”

The man was then hit with the bat.

The suspects also broke the window of the mail delivery truck, and then they disappeared into some nearby woods. Read more

  1. It’s damn dangerous out there and not much can be done about it. My city is about 75000 and the east side where my route is is a slum. Gang bangers, meth all over the place, run down apartment complexes where I routinely deliver letters from criminal lawyers offering their services to skank who have been arrested, cops all over the place, which is good for my point of view, boxes are routinely vandalized, the kids are mean as hell and their parents are worse, who do nothing to try to control the little shits. It’s a good thing I drive all day so I can get the hell out if need be, but there’s a lot of carriers including some in my office who have to walk these streets.
All management seems to care about is DOIS. I know many are opposed to curbline or mounted delivery in neighborhoods where there is still house to house walking, but in the interest of safety, some need to be converted to reduce the times we have to be in contact with some of these scum of the earth. It’s all races, too, showing that anybody can be a threat.
I have tried in vain to get NDCBU’s on my worst streets but management refuses to consider it. I’m outta here in about two and a half months but somebody will have to be in that neighborhood when I leave.

    • I would bet that in those same problem areas, supervisors will never be seen doing a route inspection?
