Two Postal Worker brothers have accumulated over 4,500 hours of sick leave

Brothers share impressive attendance record

Dedication runs in the Pentico family — and brothers Ronald and Ricky each have sizeable sick leave banks to prove it.

The brothers, both Perry, IA, letter carriers, have accumulated more than 4,500 hours of sick leave between them.

“It’s quite amazing to have employees as committed to their work as the Pentico brothers [are]”, said Perry Postmaster Sheila Ludwikowski, who recently recognized the brothers for their achievement.

Ronald has more than 2,500 hours of accumulated sick leave, while Ricky has more than 2,000 hours.

“I have been fortunate to have had few health issues through my postal career,” said Ronald, who plans to retire in April after 32 years. “I am very aware of the burden that is placed on the rest of the team when someone is gone.”

The Postal Service offers a program to help employees learn to bank their sick leave, which can be useful when conserved.

The Pentico brothers follow the footsteps of their father who also worked at the Perry Post Office and retired after more than 30 years.

“That’s just the way I was raised,” said Ricky. “You get up and come to work every day.”

  1. My mom, who retired after 32 years of service had MEGA sick leave….she took off TWO MONTHS before she retired to burn the access and was paid out the rest. NEVER WORRIED for money the rest of her life, was buying cars, getting work done on her house, etc. Put money into the building of her new church and got her own PEW… lived to see the church and helped out her children. Never had to get a PART-TIME job, to make ends meet like some OTHER retirees do…and she had 6 children she raised by herself..and put one TOTAL through a major university.

  2. 29 years and 4 months 24 hours sick, 440 annual……see where I am going with this….FMLA at 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years takes its toll. give these toads nothing. gone in 8 months with zero sick. the two suckers were conned on sick leave and affirmative action promotions I see. now I know why they call it flyover country!

  3. just save 2080 SL hours to use your last year and carry 240 AL hours.
    Fix any ailments.
    Leave

  4. Retired (2009) with 3,200 sick hours. 36 yrs of service. (very lucky no health issues) never recieved anything but a lapel button when I reached 2,000 not even a hand shake, but it did add almost another 2yrs. onto my retirement (38 yrs.) & that was a greater reward than a piece of paper.
