USPS Annual Report to Congress includes useful information for employees

USPS has released its Fiscal Year 2012 Progress and Performance, Annual Report to Congress.

The Annual Report to Congress is organized around four core themes — finances, the drive toward innovation, growth of package services and customer service. The report also includes the fiscal year (FY) 2012 Comprehensive Statement on Postal Operations — a review of major events during the past fiscal year — the FY 2012 Annual Performance Report and the FY 2013 Performance Plan.

This combination of reports is required by Congress. But it also can be useful for employees. It’s a broad overview of the complex operations, finances, products, and services the Postal Service provided. Among many other points of information, the report answers the following questions:

  • How much revenue did the Postal Service earn in FY 2012? The answer is on page 20.
  • How satisfied were our customers with our service? (Page 34).
  • How many Post Offices or Contract Postal Units does USPS operate? (Page 23).
  • What new products and services were introduced? (Pages 42–43).
  • What are the Postal Service’s plans for the future? (Page 57).

“Employees can use the information in the Progress and Performance, Annual Report to Congress 2012 to find answers to specific questions from customers or to see the big picture of the Postal Service as a business with a key role to support the U.S. economy,” said Strategic Planning Director Emil Dzuray. “They may be surprised at the number of ways we were successful at meeting our customers’ changing needs with our products and services.”
