The blast damaged the mailbox and mail inside
CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) – The U.S. Postal Service is investigating after an explosive device placed in the mailbox of the Rogers County district attorney detonated.
A spokeswoman for District Attorney Janice Steidley says no one was injured in Tuesday’s blast, which was strong enough to blow the door off the mailbox.
Spokeswoman Michelle Lowry says Steidley was not home when the explosion occurred. Lowry didn’t have details on the type of device used.
The incident came the same day Steidley was cleared by a multicounty grand jury of accusations brought by local law enforcement officials alleging wrongdoing, including alleged witness tampering. Lowry says it’s unclear if the two events are related.
Lowry says authorities may have video from a neighbor’s security system of who might have placed the device in the mailbox.
