Postal Employees in Bloomfield, NJ surprised by notice to park elsewhere

Postal employees were surprised Saturday when they arrived at work. A sign in their parking lot alerted them that, as of June 16, they would need to park elsewhere.

They will need to park on the street or in a township garage once the municipality begins construction on a senior center at the site.

“We have over 40 carriers who use our own cars to get to work,” 26-year postal worker Don Wettengel said at Monday’s Township Council meeting. “This will affect a lot of people. We understand that you’re going to put that new building up, but we would like some consideration.”

Wettengel proposed allowing postal employees to park in spaces behind Town Hall.

Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia said that was “going to be tough” as Town Hall employees already park there. The mayor said he and the council would look into the matter.
