Owning the market:PMG reports on package growth

Online shopping continues to grow, and so does the Postal Service’s opportunity to dominate the package industry, PMG Pat Donahoe says.

In his latest message to employees, Donahoe reports that while single-piece First-Class Mail volumes are down from last year, Standard Mail and packages are growing. Package volume increases this year have boosted overall revenues by 11.2 percent.

The PMG also says the Postal Service has started delivering Amazon and Priority Mail packages seven days a week in test markets, and continues to expand in other areas. “That’s the way the market is going,” he says. “We want to be first in those markets.”

Additionally, Donahoe emphasizes the importance of handling packages carefully. He reminds employees they should deliver packages and avoid leaving “left package” notices for customers. “If we take good care of customers’ packages, we will grow the package business,” he says.

Finally, Donahoe thanks employees for their feedback and excellent work. “Keep doing a great job,” he says.

Our office’s package volume has dropped dramatically in the last year.

Gee, I wonder if that’s tied to the wonderful service mgmt. causes…

and the winner of the “dumbest post of the day” is…TSP !!!
    congrats, you’ve earned it.

  2. Look I’m forever what’s good for the Post Office and the hard working employees, but getting us to do more for less ?! Problem

  3. Sad at my post office they can’t get the clerks to work …they slow down so the ccas can do everything . Well they get paid good and the ccas get screwed

  4. Then why I’m I not regular yet and I’ve been working for the post office 8 years. Work my butt off doing everyone else’s job. Cause they don’t care anymore and just going to cheaper labor while the big leagues get bonuses? !

  5. Management cant provide bad delivery service we are the last person to touch the mail and if we provide our customers with the service they deserve then management has nothing to do with it. Provide the service to your customers and they will come back again and again

  6. Jimmy alot of your packages are getting dropped off at our stations for final delivery and UPS practically has no service on weekends. Our stations package volumes have almost doubled over last year a whole lot of amazon prime packages coming through.

  7. For my protection,I told Amazon to mail my stuff via FedEx/UPS carriers. I willing to pay a bit more.

  9. I must have missed Pat’s call for my feedback. Checking messages…..nope……he must have forgotten me. Seriously, if he actually gets feedback, where, how and from whom does he get it? There are plenty of yes people around, does he search out the people who will tell him what he might not want to hear but should know?
