NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Seven U.S. Postal Service employees are facing their first court appearances in a Connecticut fraud and larceny case.

The postal workers are set to be arraigned Tuesday in New Britain Superior Court. They’re accused of illegally collecting more than $110,000 in unemployment compensation benefits, in total.

Authorities say the workers under-reported the wages they received while employed by the Postal Service in order to fraudulently collect unemployment benefits.

The workers were charged earlier this month with first-degree larceny and unemployment compensation fraud. The larceny charge carries one to 20 years in prison upon conviction, and the fraud charge carries one to five years behind bars.

The arrests came in an investigation by state prosecutors and officials with the federal Labor Department and Postal Service.
