A tractor-trailer slammed into the back of a mail truck Friday on Ga. Highway 53, injuring the mail carrier.
The westbound lanes of Ga. 53 in Plainville were blocked after the crash about noon while Gordon County firefighters removed the carrier, who was entrapped in the mail truck, and worked to clean up a gas leak. Area residents directed traffic.
The woman in stable condition was taken to Floyd Medical Center via ambulance by Gordon County Emergency Medical Services, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Hemphill said.
The mail truck was making deliveries along Ga. 53 near Coosa Valley Hunting Supply in a residential area when the tractor-trailer rear ended it, Hemphill said. The mail truck overturned and came to rest on its top in the front yard of a home at 3954 Ga. 53, where mail was scattered about.
The mail carrier had made a delivery at the house next door at 3966 Ga. 53 and was approaching the next home when the tractor-trailer struck the mail truck. The driver will face at least one charge, Hemphill said.
The tractor-trailer driver said “he didn’t see her,” Hemphill said, adding the man will be charged with following too closely.
