USPIS: $100,000 reward in 2013 murder of Maryland letter carrier

CHEVERLY, Md. (WUSA9) — Solving the 2013 murder of the Md. letter carrier, Tyson Jerome Barnette is still a top priority, according to a spokesperson for the Postal Inspection Service.

The Postal Inspection Service has discovered new information in the case, however additional information is still needed, the spokesperson for the Postal Inspection Service said.

Letter carrier fatally shot in Cheverly, MD

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier who was delivering mail on his assigned route in Cheverly, MD, on November 23, 2013. The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. in the 6000 block of Reed Road in Cheverly, MD 20785.

Postal Inspectors and Prince George’s County Police responded to the shooting; however, the letter carrier died at the scene. Both agencies are continuing a joint investigation.

Any person who kills or attempts to kill an officer or employee of the United States while the employee is engaged in the performance of his or her official duties may be sentenced to the death penalty (18 USC 1114).
