A U.S. Postal Service worker who was in charge at the Unity Post Office until last year has filed a lawsuit accusing her employer of retaliation after she demanded that they take a death threat allegedly made by a co-worker more seriously.
Diana Mallard of Skowhegan, who has been on medical leave from the Postal Service since August 2013, claims in the suit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Bangor that instead of taking the threat against her more seriously, her supervisor became angry and “began to treat her in a hostile manner.”
Mallard’s attorney, Guy Loranger of Old Orchard Beach, said in the 10-page complaint he filed on her behalf that Mallard learned in a conference call on July 25, 2013, with the Postal Service’s Threat Assessment Team that one of the employees she supervised had told a health care provider that she “would have killed (Mallard) if she could have.”
Maine postmaster accuses employer of retaliation after death threats against her
Hmmmm. An EAS-15 low level supervisor getting threatened by a higher level manager. I’ve been told by sources I believe that management eats its own and has a terrible track record of abusing lower level supervisors and PM’s. The demands higher ups put on supervisors can be impossible to fulfill, and the stress of having to answer to some of these dictators is enormous. Which is why I wouldn’t get into management for any reason. I only have two years or so to retirement as a city carrier and I’m proud I stayed where I am. The stress and abuse I know that goes on to otherwise good people trying to supervise fairly is simply not worth the pay to me.
It’s my belief anyway that the public face of the USPS – carriers and window clerks – are the glue that keeps this rattletrap going because we are the last link between the mail and the customer. Without us doing our work management would not be able to sponge off our labor, pay themselves undeserved bonuses and steal credit for stuff they had nothing to do with. I am not referring to local management. My supervisor and PM work hard, have a good working relationship with us and do what they can. It’s when you start dealing on the District Level that you start running into brick walls. It’s that way all over the country. Sad.
Makes you wonder what she did to the employee
