Tony Vegliante and Paul Vogel — two USPS Executive Leadership Team members with nearly eight decades of experience between them — will both be retiring from the Postal Service this year.
Vegliante, who became the Postal Service’s Chief Human Resources Officer and Executive Vice President in 2005, began his 35-year career as a letter-sorting machine operator in New Haven, CT. After earning two master’s degrees, he assumed Human Resources (HR) positions of increasing responsibility, first in the field and later at headquarters.
Among Vegliante’s accomplishments are the creation of the HR Shared Services program, the launch of a redesigned executive leadership development curriculum, and implementation of the USPS pay-for-performance evaluation and compensation system. He is the first public sector employee to become a fellow at the National Academy of Human Resources, an organization that recognizes individuals with extraordinary HR achievements.
Vogel began his career 45 years ago as a clerk/carrier in Boston, working his way through college. He has enjoyed a varied career at USPS, including his leadership in establishing the Postal Service’s transportation partnerships and his vital role in early network operations realignments. His strategic business skills were evident in the launch of the Global Business group, which resulted in a $600 million increase in international revenues in just two years.
Following an initial retirement, Vogel was asked to return to the Postal Service in 2010 as President and Chief Marketing/Sales Officer. He currently is President of the Digital Solutions Group, leading Postal Service initiatives in the digital marketplace.
“The Postal Service deeply appreciates the extraordinary accomplishments of these two officers,” said PMG Pat Donahoe. “We will miss their expertise and their service, and we wish them well as they begin new chapters in their lives.”
