Benton, KS post office remains closed for safety concerns1.22.2015 BENTON, Kan. — A small town’s post office could be closed for several more months because of safety concerns.

The Benton post office has been closed for over a month, causing most of the town to have to drive 15 minutes to Andover to get their mail. With all of the fallout from residents, the city is stepping in to provide a temporary solution. Right now it’s the talk of the town.

“We don’t have a regular mailman and you come here to pick up your mail,” says Benton resident Don Baker.

Benton residents thought their post office would be closed for only a couple weeks, but those weeks will likely turn into a least a few months.

The owner of the post office declined an interview, but tells KAKE News he just found out the building doesn’t meet more than a dozen safety standards. There are problems with mold, cracked windows, and tiles just to name a few. The owner says he plans to fix the outdated building, but it will take time. Read more
