 Suspects in beating of Springfield MA mail carrier to be prosecuted by  state -- not fedsSPRINGFIELD — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service will not pursue federal charges against two suspects who allegedly assaulted a mail carrier last month in the Forest Park neighborhood.

“They are going to be prosecuted at the state level and not the federal level on this one,” Bernadette Lundbohm, public information officer for the service, said in a voice mail left for a reporter Thursday.

Lundbohm could not be reached Friday to elaborate on the decision.

City resident Alexis Arroyo, 18, and a 15-year-old were charged Monday in the Jan. 21 attack on a mail carrier stopped at a traffic light at Belmont Avenue and Oakland Street.
