Customers upset with area post office for unpredictable midday closures

Customers upset with area post officefor unpredictable midday closuresKANSAS CITY, Mo. — Several customers in the Northland are angry after learning a post office is closing during the day, in the middle of listed hours.

FOX 4 first heard from people earlier this week who’d gone to the location off N. Brighton and Vivion Road, only to find a makeshift paper sign taped to the door that read “Closed for lunch will return at 3:00pm sorry for any inconvenience.”

FOX 4’s Megan Dillard reached out to the postal service who said that office is not authorized to close and will investigate. They also confirmed a staffing concern at that office.

  1. Have we taken a look at lost sales because of Sat closings and shorter hours?
Maybe the P.O could be open more hours.

  2. Happens all over the u.s. when you hire part time postal employees you get part time employees. The usps needs to keep all post offices open all day so working people can do business,if you work at a post office that is still open from 8.00am to 5.30 pm you get all the people that need our services and live in small towns at your office between 3.30 and 5.30. No staffing to handle the long lines and the manager is gone at 1.30 or 2.00 pm we don’t care about the people of the u.s. just get the mail to the carriers so they can misdeliver it. Can’t. Finnish the route just scan your package As attempted. And let the window clerk look ten minutes for a package that is back out on the street. Part time employees don’t work you need to know the ins and outs of a route, when you do a route ounce a week you don’t. Know shit.

    • Would you prefer a lot of people sitting around doing nothing?

Most, if not all stores can manage to have their registers open throughout the day and can accommodate lunches and breaks.

The problem is the PO won’t fire incompetent EAS or bargaining unit workers. The good old days of high 1st class postage rates and scads of workers milling about is over.

  3. I’m sorry, but this is what smaller government looks like. Kansas and Missouri were all in the last few elections. The people have spoken and now have to live with it.

  4. I’m sure this is a result from Postplan. Won’t be the last sign to be put up when no one is available to work. Level 18 PM’s covering 5-6 offices with no back up. Priceless.

  6. Could you at least spend the time to proofread your sign and use spellcheck. What time did they close if they will be back at 3:00?

  7. You’d be sorry when I found the manager who can’t spell INCONVEINENCE. What a disgrace!
