Pennsylvania Letter Carrier admits to stealing from mail

Pennsylvania Letter Carrier admits to stealing from mailHARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Hanover woman has admitted in federal court that she opened mail and stole cash and gift cards while working for the U.S. Postal Service.

Stacie Ann Stevens, 41, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on Thursday to a charge of destruction of mail, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

The theft was discovered after Carroll Valley residents complained about missing and torn mail. In October, Stevens was caught on surveillance video using a stolen gift card, Smith said.

She has resigned from the Postal Service and faces a year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed a plea agreement with her that must be approved by court. As part of the deal, Stevens agreed to pay restitution to the victims.
