He was shot several times while inside his parked car near West Warren Boulevard and North Francisco Avenue. He grew up in the neighborhood and lived just across the street, according to family.
His aunt, Sharon Winters, found his body slumped over inside his still running car. Police counted 11 bullet holes in the window.
“A kid that loved his family. Loved life, itself. Loved being around, just sharing his love with everyone,” Sandra Winters, aunt, said.
Police have not released information on the shooting or said if there is a suspect or motive. Relatives said Hayes had no gang affiliation, criminal record or enemies.
“I’m just guessing, maybe it’s mistaken identity,” Sharon Winters said.
The United States Postal Service thought so highly of the mail carrier that it suggested ABC7 follow Hayes on his route in 2013. Read more
Sad news ~~~ waiting on the rest of the story,,,,
another day in the life of rahm emanual’s chitcongo!
Just another day in the city. This poor fellow, according to the article, was a good man and had no gang affiliation, and the USPS office where he worked valued him, too.
Now, this is not postal connected in the sense that he was on the route when this senseless murder took place, but it serves as a reminder that our cities are getting increasingly violent, and thanks to rampant drug use, especially the meth business being brought in from Mexico, gang activity and an increasing lack of respect for others, even to the point of murder, our jobs as carriers are getting more dangerous every day.
I live in a nice quiet little suburb, but the city I work in has become a hot bed for drug trafficking and an alarming increase in gang activity, especially among Latinos. This last week there was a gang related murder, and threats of retaliation were made public on the web and the schools had to be plastered with cops. This is in a town of about 75,000, not a major metro like Dallas, L.A., etc.
Meth use is epidemic here, with users getting more unpredictable and psychotic as the shit continues to eat away their nervous systems. I see people all the time with rotted teeth, skinny as somebody from Darfur and so nervous and jumpy it scares you.
The Postal Service provides universal service, but I can see the day where some parts of cities will be forced to get mail at post office boxes simply because it’s too dangerous to send carriers in those neighborhoods.
I certainly want to express my sympathies to the victim’s family and friends. I hope the douche bags who committed this horrible murder get caught and never see the light of day again.
“mistaken identity”, what you sayin? Blacks all look the same? No seriously. This is tragic.
Prayers to his family..
My prayers goes out to the family …God bless you.
