Ask Fairfax, VA, Rural Carrier Cesar Nunez about the value of seat belts. He’ll tell you they may have saved his life.
Nunez was delivering a parcel when his vehicle was struck by a truck behind him. His vehicle went into an uncontrolled spin, crossed into another lane and struck another vehicle before rolling over. “There was no warning before the impact and no time to react,” he said.
Fortunately, Nunez was wearing his seat belt which prevented him from tumbling inside the vehicle or being ejected. The rural carrier wasn’t injured in the accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), from 2004 to 2008, seatbelts saved more than 75,000 lives — enough people to fill a large sports arena. NHTSA estimates that seatbelts save more than 13,000 lives every year.
