GREENWICH TWP., Pa. – Interstate 78 East in Berks County will likely remain closed well into the afternoon as crews work to clear the scene of an accident involving a tractor trailer and a box truck hauling mail. The accident happened at 5:23 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the highway, near milepost 39.3, in Greenwich Township. The impact of the crash sent the box truck down an embankment and into a wooded area. Mail could be seen scattered on the ground around the wreckage. U.S. Postal Service workers responded to the scene to gather the spilled mail.
The trailer came to rest on an angle partially off the highway. Crews were working to offload fuel from the truck’s cab.
