Women complained for years about Tacoma mail carrier's alleged sexual assaults but were ignored by USPS

Tacoma mailman accused of sexually harassing and inappropriately touching several women for years on his delivery route is facing additional  allegations.

Tacoma mail carrier: For a decade women complained, but mail carrier kept working

For more than 10 years, women on Robert Taitano mail route in Tacoma told the U.S. Postal Service the substitute carrier was creepy or worse.

They said he groped them and made sexual comments. He entered their homes and businesses without permission. Once, before he delivered a Victoria’s Secret catalog, he wrote: “You would look good in this.”

Nevertheless, the Postal Service never told Tacoma police of the allegations from more than a dozen women. After police investigated, Taitano was charged with assault, harassment and burglary.

Police started investigating Taitano, 55, in 2014 after a woman on his route reported to police that the mail carrier had entered her home without permission and asked whether she was married.

During the investigation, Detective Roland Hayes learned the Postal Service had gotten more than 12 formal and informal complaints about Taitano since at least the early 2000s.

At least nine formal complaints appear to have been made directly to the Postal Service. Others appear to have been made by women informally to another mail carrier.

Hayes wrote in a report that he didn’t understand why the federal agency hadn’t reported the alleged crimes to police.

Tacoma mail carrier charged in incidents involving 5 women in South Tacoma, police report additional allegations

Tacoma mail carrier Robert Taitano is charged in connection with five incidents alleged to have happened in South Tacoma between state Route 16 and South 43rd Street, and between South Tyler and South Alder streets.

Police reports detail other incidents for which he has not been charged.

• The manager of an apartment complex told police that in 2011 that after making small talk Taitano grabbed her by the waist and thrust his hips into her. She yelled at him to leave and he did. On other occasions he asked for hugs and kisses.

• A salon owner said Taitano grabbed her butt while delivering mail to the business in 2013.

• In August 2014, Taitano walked into a woman’s apartment without permission and asked the resident whether she was married. He left when she took a step toward a large knife in her kitchen.

• In June 2014, a 76-year-old woman told the Postal Service Taitano had repeatedly made vulgar sexual comments to her while delivering mail. She said he once asked to use the bathroom and responded with vulgarities when she lied and said someone was using the shower.

• A woman told police Taitano advanced toward her in September 2004 while delivering mail to her outside. He said she was good looking and asked about her sex life. “I could make you feel real good,” he said. “I’m clean.”

  1. Mgt. in the making! This is part of the reason the Postal Service SUCKS! Too many chickens in Mgt., he should have been pencil whipped from the 1st time!!!

I had no problem telling ignorant employees to punch out when they started to act up…and I was a 204B! I have a degree in Mgt. which is the exact reason why I’m not in mismanagement here!!
