North Carolina postal worker killed by tree was about to be a grandmother

Funeral set for 10-year North Carolina Rural Carrier tomorrow

U.S. mail carrier Lisa Rudisill Wilkerson died Saturday in Denver, N.C. when a large tree fell onto her mail truck during a severe thunderstorm.

Wilkerson lived in Sherrill’s Ford and had two children, a son, 19, and a daughter, 22. Her daughter is pregnant with Wilkerson’s first grandchild, a boy, Rudisill said.

“She was really looking forward to this grandbaby,” she said. “She already had a nickname for him – Peanut.”

“I never met anybody who didn’t like her,” she said.

The 60-foot oak tree that hit Wilkerson’s truck fell from the yard of a home owned by U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., on Norman Court, off Lakeshore Road North in the Westport community.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton. Wilkerson’s funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Amity Baptist Church in Iron Station.
