From the National Association of Letters Carriers
The CEO of BJ’s Wholesale has sent a letter apologizing for a mailing that began hitting post offices across the country this week. The mailing was apparently intended to acquire new customers and contained some humor directed at letter carriers. “While the message was supposed to be humorous, we may have missed the mark,” BJ’s President and CEO Laura Sen wrote. “We apologize to the U.S. Postal Service and mail carriers for any offense or misunderstanding caused by our mailer message.” The 15 states targeted by the mailer are Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. click here to read the apology letter.
Here is the text and picture ( PostalReporter inserted the arrow)of the flyer below:
“ATTENTION: MAIL CARRIER PLEASE DO NOT BEND OR FOLD AND STICK IN YOUR POCKET. You’ll probably get one in the mail, too.”
My programmer is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP.
I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses.
But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using WordPress on a number of websites for about a year and am worried about
switching to another platform. I have heard great things about blogengine.net.
Is there a way I can import all my wordpress posts into it?
Any kind of help would be really appreciated!

should read BJ minimum wage employees do not fold or put in your pocket.
Apology did not mean anything when BJ’S turns around and sends the same message to letter carrier on the May 2013 mailing….
Hey Mr. Slug maybe if you keep repeating how you’re a carrier (like myself), people might actually believe you. You sound more like a self loathing management type.
that isn’t so terrible. lord knows we’ve gotten worse
Yes, some carriers have been known to steal. That doesn’t mean they all do. This message applies to carriers, giving you all a bad reputation. Personally, I would want more respect instead of suspicion when delivering the mail. There is humor that is funny, and then there are remarks that camouflage as humor to get a point across. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over this, but I wouldn’t be willing to laxly state, “call me what you will, thief, liar or cheat” I’ve been called worse..who is BJ to make that comment, humorously intended or not? I don’t find it funny, I would find it rather insulting. But today’s climate in advertising is even ‘bad publicity’ is still publicity. If there was an uproar publically about this issue, BJ gets the free advertising and the carrier still gets the bad reputation.
The Midwesterner is the smartest person on this board a carrier like myself with a sense of humor thats what the usps needs more of people who can laugh!!!
On the plus side, the mail piece is acknowledging that some mail is important (the top half ). The comment about the mail carrier bending, folding and pocketing the flyer is somewhat funny. I’m not sure, however, if letter carriers need more people to make fun of them. We endure enough bad publicity.
BJ’s had a sense of humor to produce this and I, a mail carrier, have the sense of humor to laugh at it.
Hey wadda ya expect from a company named BJ’s ……………………………BJ stand for Bad Jokes.
I agree again with you slug. Postal service should not be immune from changing with the times. I say bring it!
4 days per week 10hrs per day!!! perfect for the SLUG to party down!!!!
Letter of apology is not enough they need to make a public announcement
on tv.
BJ’s needs to put apology letter in major newspapers of areas affected
by this insult…..
FINALLY THE ADD AGENCY SHOULD BE FIRED…
You will rue the day when the PO goes to 5 day delivery. If it happens, when this contract ends there are already plans to go to a 4 day work week. That will mean that you are no longer a full time employee. Your pay will drop 20% (you might get it back on OT, if that will be allowed..they are wanting to do away with time-and-a-half). There has been studies done about going to 3 day work weeks, too.
There is a big push to go to all curb line delivery, or cluster boxes, which means that routes will be cannibalized (6 routes being turned into 4, or 3).
Watch out what you ask for, because you might get it.
Hmmmm..I am surprised that some carrier didn’t file a lawsuit about that comment or some EEO complaint! Really! I found it to be rather amusing as a carrier! I am more put out by the “going postal” remarks and yes Slug I too am ready for 8/5/13 to happen!:)
Lets have a big party and close down every Sat and Sun so we can get drunk and not have to call in sick. What do you think are you with THE SLUG or Not.. “The Slug” cant wait till 8/5/2013 a day that will live in Postal Infamy!!! I love getting toasted on Saturday Morning while I watch cartoons!!!!! Sincerely “The Slug”
I think any letter carrier who would take offense at this would be one who has no sense of humor and is looking for trouble where there isn’t any. Yes, there are some carriers who have stolen mail in the past and will in the future, but those types don’t need apologies anyway.
The way Congress and Postal management have been attacking Letter Carriers and you think something as silly as this is going to upset them. Darrel Issa and Tom Coburn deserves more attention as well as PM Donahoe who wants to destroy the USPS and pull all Postal Workers out of OPM and the Federal Employees Health Plans and into some cheap second rate limited coverage option which (upper) management well certainly opt out of!
Ok? So what was wrong with that? I’m a carrier and I would have laughed when I got them.
