HCSO and U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General Joint Investigation
Hamilton County, TN – Yesterday, November 24th, a U.S. Postal employee was arrested while on duty for possession of heroin, methamphetamine and assorted drug paraphernalia.
After a several month investigation, Agents from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Special Operations Division, arrested Gary Lee Thompson (age 50), of Ooltewah, Tn. Thompson was arrested in his postal truck on Tuesday in the parking lot of the Christ United Methodist Church on Brainerd Road, just prior to attempting to inject himself with what agents believed to be heroin.
A search of Thompson’s truck yielded a small amount of heroin and methamphetamine. Thompson was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on various possession charges: POSSESSION OF HEROIN, POSSESSION OF METH, & POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA.
Authorities with the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General stated, “The vast majority of the 600,000 postal employees nationwide are honest, hard-working individuals who would never engage in such conduct. Special agents with the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG) aggressively investigate allegations that involve postal employees putting the safety of the general public at risk, as in this case. The USPS OIG is grateful to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department for working with us to bring this matter to a quick resolution. To report allegations of postal employee misconduct, contact USPS OIG special agents at 888-USPS-OIG or www.uspsoig.gov.”
This is what is left? Damn I can’t wait to retire and be done with this failing company. I USED to be proud to work for the USPS…..a complete shame, good going upper Mgt!
Completely agree Mark.
It’s a shame what postal mgmt. has done to what was once the world’s greatest postal system.
Used to work with career employees, who took the job seriously.
No longer the case, with the non-career direction the usps has chosen.
Just a little pick me up to get going and a bit of the h to take the edge off. Since when is doing your job a crime
This Postal employee is a victim of his own habit. The disease he suffers from is treatable yet inexcusable. When and after he finishes the treatment he can maintain his job. Otherwise if he was dealing drugs and not using he wouldn’t stand on any legs, hello jail, and loss of retirement due to the felony charge.
I pray he’s a Union member, if not he can utilize the help of his close friends, Local Management to avoid loss of position.
I thought the unions were supposed to represent members and non members. Oh, that’s right you’re a scab if you don’t want to subsidize the Vegas trips
Hope he was on break
