APWU: Loud and Clear – ‘We Don’t Want No Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) !’

08/24/2016APWU delegates held a spirited rally protesting the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on the second day of the union’s National Convention.

With Secretary-Treasurer Liz Powell serving as emcee, and the APWU Labor Chorus singing loud and proud, speakers outlined the damaging effect the trade deal between the US and 11 other countries would have.

Opponents of the TPP believe Congress may consider the deal in the lame-duck session – after the November elections but before newly elected senators and representatives take office.

“What’s at stake is your jobs, all of the jobs of the people you love and all the jobs in middle-class America,” said Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL). “It’s a road that leads to nothing but cheap labor.”

Broadcaster Ed Schultz energized the crowd with a fiery pep talk. “If you think that 200,000 workers in your union can’t make a difference, you are wrong! You can make a difference, we have the power!” he said.

Schultz advised delegates to call their local elected officials and ask them to vote against TPP legislation. He also called on Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party nominee for president, to “get on the phone” with senators and urge them to oppose it, whenever it comes up for a vote.

“This will gut American jobs, depress wages and destroy the middle class,” he said. “It’s a corporate deal that is going to help the people of Wall Street and it ain’t gonna do anything for Main Street”

“You cannot lose. We have the power, 200,000 people can make it happen: We can do it!

APWU President Mark Dimondstein concurred. “Brothers and sisters, take it home, call the White House. What do you think?” he said to the fired up crowd. “The White House has gone on the record last week saying they will work with the Republican House and Senate, and what’s going to stop them? It’s you and me and all the people like us!”

  1. all the low skilled criminal illegal aliens Obama the Democrat brought in will be the new postal workers once they get them amnesty……….Hillary will double down too….apwu endorses Hildebeast instead of Trump who is against shafting Americans. does the apwu notice all the rich Democrats with walls around THEIR mansions. except Bernie…..he bought a 1 Million island lake front home and Audi G 5 for the garage…….3 homes for a commie? I feel the burn from the useful idiots! they swim the Rio Grande….think they can swim to Bernie’s Island? pays big $$$$$$ to be a commie sellout!

  2. The TPP ( Toilet Paper Pact) is but a easy way to destroy not only Postal Service, to cuts many job protections Why is it that investors and private foreign Co’s have more rights than American workers? Many elected officials believe that Americans should just “Know Their Place” and work for free! Just get out of the way so business bastards can make lots of money. Fight the bastards! The meek will inherit nothing!

  3. Ed Schultz what a tool….200,000 dolts can not even get more than a 1% raise? some power? they leave out the fact that Hillary and Obama are all in for TTP, while Trump is against it…..oh the humanity of it all! like Alice in Wonderland every thing is up side down and backwards in apwu’s little world. notice they do not mention the fact that it is a Democrat White House, just those nasty Republicans in the House and Senate……do they really think you are that stupid? I guess so. mean while the Bern is enjoying his new 1 million dollar lake house and new Audi Q 5……at least they can not call me a Dem “useful idiot”.

  4. You go APWU members! and remember that 1% raise and 1 cent COLA your union fought for. go get em!

  5. The truth is it is the bill from hell. It just keeps sucking jobs as Ross P. said. it didn’t
matter if it is Dems, or Republicans . It is like Bill Clinton said when he was running for office. ” It is the jobs stupid”. What type of place is being left for the workers of the
future. when all of the so called leaders are in bed with those with money. I do not
know how these people look at them selves in their mirror at night.

    • i remember years ago an interview where they asked Bill Clinton if their was anything he wishes he would of done different when he was president? He said “the biggest mistake I made was signing the North American Free Trade Agreement. Now they keep wanting more trade agreements.
