MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Hundreds of pieces of mail that were supposed to be delivered to homes in a Macomb Township neighborhood in November ended up in a Port-A-Potty. Everything from checks to holiday cards to store coupons were dumped in the toilet.

People in the subdivision said they’ve had problems with mail delivery, but never anything as serious as mail being thrown in a Port-A-Potty. The incident impacted hundreds of lives in Macomb Township.

The pile of mail is now blue because it was fished out of a portable toilet filled with smell-reducing blue chemicals.

Officials said the mail was dumped in the toilet in mid-November

  1. see even postal inspectors have a sh,,, job! ROFLMFAO!

  2. been there done that has no clue about cca rights. We always first blame cca when it could just have been a regular who did not know the contract. Shame shame

  3. Throwing away mail is inexcusable. But my question is, what kind of mentality, or lack thereof, are we witnessing here? Discarded mail in a Porta Potty is going to be discovered by the folks who own the thing, which will result in identifiable suspects. Recently, discarded mail was found in the woods. That would also be eventually discovered, and result in identifiable suspects. Are the folks we hire that stupid, or are they just so callus that they don’t care if they get caught.

  4. Kind of ironic that it was found in a toilet considering that the
Postal Service has turned into one big cesspool. Fire the toolbags
    and save the Service.

  5. City carrier or CCA? If it is a CCA (city carrier assistant), the first step now as a postal carrier, where they do not become career employees until they either take over a route after transfers, retirees, removal, etc. or if management elects to make them “unassigned regulars”, meaning they’re full time employees but don’t have their own route yet, it’s symptomatic of the flaws in the whole new CCA program.
Previous to this disastrous program, new carriers were called part time flexibles, or PTF’s. They became career employees after a three month probationary period, and that program needs to be reinstated pronto. The problem is that CCA’s do not get the same pay, no sick leave, and are demanded to work incredibly long hours, sometimes weeks at a time without a day off, even Sunday, where amazon.com has the USPS delivering their packages even then.
The result is that management knowing a CCA’s tenure is subject to review on a yearly basis, and their union rights are much weaker, can also bully them more, push them to run on the routes they’re assigned, ignore critical functions such as change of addresses or knowing how to return undeliverable mail properly, and demand a work pace that is not just unfair and leads to the kinds of stupidity this article refers to, but is unsafe to exhausted people whom often leave, knowing there are other similar paying jobs that are much more humane and fair.
Because the article didn’t say so, we don’t know for sure if a CCA, city carrier, rural carrier or rural sub did this horrible act. Whomever did so must be fired immediately, and if it is a CCA, and the majority of these types in incidents are involving them, management and the NALC must review the effectiveness and sanity of the whole program. Short term monetary gains are typical of high level management eager to receive undeserved bonuses, but this is a slippery slope that will cost the USPS customers in the long run, and allowed to continue could kill the Service outright.
Hire the help! It’s maddening to see these insulting TV ads bragging about how ready the USPS is to handle those packages when insiders know how grossly understaffed and mismanaged the bulk of the offices in this country are. It’s easy to claim how “ready” we are when you are a desk jockey climbing the ladder nose first up some superior’s ass and never have contact with real customers. Those types were typically lousy workers and got where they are by being relatives, butt buddies and ass kissers. Of course doesn’t that usually apply to all businesses?

    • How right you are in regards to not telling it like it is. For many of the
employees I can only commend. Now the rejects like the one in this
story. There is someone the service could do without. I worked decades
for the people as a carrier. They deserve better as so do their coworkers.
I live and worked in state of Michigan. The mismanagement is unreal
here as you read the stories .

    • Your Comments are well taken. Before CCA’s there were TE’s and before that PTF’s. TE’s got the short end of the whole CCA deal, by being asked to re-apply if they still wanted to continue on with the Postal Service. I’ve worked with some carriers that were TE’s for 6 years and instead of Grandfathering them in made them start from scratch as a CCA. I truly understand that business’s need to do what’s necessary to keep there operations a float. I agree bring back the days of PTF’s.
