BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The postal facility on Pegasus is going to remain open longer than originally expected, or at least half of it will.
The entire facility had been scheduled to close its doors for the last time by today, but that didn’t happen.
Local mail sorting and delivery will stay take place from the Pegasus facility.
The local chapter of the American postal workers union has been told that a final decision regarding Pegasus’ future won’t be made now until January or February of 2014.
Starting June 1, some of the facilities duties have been outsourced to other cities in California.
“What the post office has done is that they have shipped all of the collection mail from Bakersfield, they’re going to be shipping it to Santa Clarita to be processed there and they’re also sending all the parcels that we normally work here they’re sending that to Santa Clarita,” said Alfred Paradez with the postal Workers Union.
The distribution center on Pegasus drive is not shutting down, at least for now
Bakersfield P&DC has abolished career employee jobs including many veterans that served our country. These same jobs are still being staffed by the so called non career workforce, (PSE, MHA, and Casuals). Union contracts are being ignored and trumped on, as the grievance proceedure is a joke to management . How sad when the rest of country is on the path to recovery financially. Planned failure for the USPS for sure.
Idiots. You had your chance at the buyout. If you weren’t eligible I could understand. If you were eligible and didn’t take it, you get what you asked for.
Issa is only in Congress for the power he has as Chairman of his committee is one of the wealthiest at 450 million, stalls or kills Democratic sponsored bills, doesn’t care about his constituents and when he says there will be a Postal Service bill by October is full of shit,as his goal is to privatize it.
The private sector would have to pay taxes. Do nothing Issa and Congress have made no improvements in the last three years except get rid of employes. They should not be getting a pay check from the taxpayers, after all they get enough from the lobbyists.
We are working under such bad working condition, why don’t sell it to private sector to handle it? we still have jobs like ups and fedex workers, they work hard and get paid better.
the postal facility didn’t ‘close’ as scheduled, imagine that! this has been part of donahoe’s method of operation for several years now. i believe donahoe and his lemmings colluded with local/regional post office management and regional post office spokespersons to lie to and mislead
postal employees and the press and make them believe the closure of their facility was imminent. their is no doubt in my mind that donahoe and local management and the usps postal spokespersons conspired to intentionally mislead postal employees and
therefore ‘force’ them into taking the buyouts. employees who were told by management that they were being transfered to another facility and/or would probably need to switch crafts would be much more inclined to leave post office employment through the early out programs. any postal employee from an affected facility that took the buyout based on the misinformation provided from postal management (including postal spokepersons) should consult an attorney about their legal options. i believe donahoe realized he could not get the reduction in career employees he was shooting for with the early out buyouts. so, donahoe chose to go down the road of putting out misinformaion, deceit, and lies to try to bump up the number of employees taking the buyouts. donahoe will continue with this deceitful, unethical, dishonest behavior until he is called on it and held accountable for it.
Thank you congress for allowing the postal workers to work under horrible working conditions by being understaffed and working two people’s jobs. Give me a buy out next year and I and alot of other people will be gone. I hope the one’s up for re-election next year will all lose their positions as this congress is the most evil and most do-nothing congress in my lifetime. Maybe if they would stop catering to lobbyists as their is aproximately 220 per senator (lol). Let’s do an audit on each congressman and find out if they have been giving in to special interests groups. They should be serving the citizens of the united states and guess what that is not happening.
