5/24/17 The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a proposed 2018 budget for the federal government May 23.
Here’s an update from the Postal Service:
We are still analyzing the proposed budget to determine what impact it might have on the Postal Service and our employees in the event it becomes law. In that regard, it is important to note that the release of the president’s proposed budget is just the first step in the annual budgetary process. Ultimately, the budget must be passed by Congress, and at this point, there is much work to be done before this budget proposal becomes law. That said, we do appreciate that the president’s proposed 2018 budget recognizes the need to enact postal legislative and regulatory reform. Both are essential to enabling the Postal Service to meet its obligations in a financially sustainable manner. The Postal Service looks forward to continuing to work with the administration and with Congress to enact postal reform legislation.
The Ratpublicans want to take America back to the 18Th century. America under the articles of confederation. Didn’t work then, won’t work now. They want to destroy unions, the free press, the environment, and women’s rights. Only businessmen and the rich should have money and be treated with respect they believe. Though many Americans don’t care. All they want are guns, god and sporting events! The Ratpublicans even want to eliminate funds for the great lakes. Maybe the Cuyahoga River will catch on fire again like it did 22 June 1969.
Hmph. Management will be for any attempts to weaken the unions, reduce pay any way they can, screw retirees and make it much more difficult to retire at a decent age if the supplemental annuity is killed and the regular annuity being based on a “high five” composite as opposed to the “high three”, which figures COLA’s in more fairly.
It seems that big business in general, including banks, factories, Wall Street, etc. has a very weak grasp on anything but the immediate profit margin. They do not seem to realize or care that constantly supporting anti-worker legislation, low pay and little if any benefits or even a pension will kill them eventually.
If the Republicans had their way and successfully wiped out the middle class, leaving this country a third world hell hole, who will have money to buy consumer goods, get home and auto loans, pay medical bills or invest in banks and stocks? Do these greedy tyrants think they can keep this up forever before their kind goes belly up too? The survival of the labor class is the fuel that powers the machine, and even a sixth grader should be able to understand that if you take away peoples’ ability to spend, you can’t make money either. Yet, that’s the business and management way. The USPS can go to the bottom of the sea too if it supports bills and legislation that hurt their employees and make them leave and look for work elsewhere. We already see the results of the CCA program – under paid, overworked and trained as little as possible. This is why service is getting so bad. You want quality work, you have to have good pay, and if you want a decent product, you have to pay the price. Poor service at the hands of management can only get worse if the USPS supports the cruel proposals of Trump or the Republicans.
