In his latest state of the business video, PMG Pat Donahoe explains how USPS is preparing to take advantage of the business opportunities ahead.
Donahoe begins by noting how the Postal Service is responding to customer feedback. He points to survey results showing the two factors customers say would convince them to do more business with the Postal Service — greater clarity on delivery times and increased tracking visibility.
USPS is responding to the first with Priority Mail simplification. “It will reduce confusion of when packages get to a destination,” says Donahoe. “Customers like the idea of 1-day, 2-day and 3-day specific delivery.”
On the subject of visibility, Donahoe notes that USPS now has four times the scanning information it did last year.
In August, the Postal Service will begin advertising these changes.
The PMG says these initiatives, along with a recovering economy and the Postal Service’s strong package business, are helping USPS build its business reputation. “People used to wonder if we could keep up with our competitors,” says Donahoe. “Not only can we compete with them, we can beat them.”
Donahoe says the Postal Service can build on this confidence and find other ways to grow its business. “We think there are big opportunities,” he says.
The PMG closes the video by thanking employees for the contributions that will make the Postal Service’s future success possible. “Thank you so much for everything you do,” says Donahoe. “Keep up the great work.”
The video is mandatory viewing for all employees.

i’m going to have to agree with
the mailman!
How the hell are there going to be “business opportunities” when you are over downsizing the network and lowering delivery standards? Downahole has to go!
The only way is to actually get management to work and carriers to care about their customers!!!
Factor 3. Stop kissing up to the mailers and start treating customers like people instead of ignoring them. Not treating employees like cheap horses to be ridden till they die would help too.
In the ’60s and ’70s the PO had nearly all the parcel business and could not wait to give it away. It would have been easier to keep than to fight to get it back.
Perhaps it would be interesting to have the PMG document who the customers are, demographics on the customer base polled, how the feedback was attained and how the data was analyzed?
I would be more inclined to believe him if verifiable statistics were presented.
Just Scanning and keep scanning, let the numbers boost up, and get the bonus. But not you, mgmt only.
