Former postal supervisor from Akron sentenced to three years in prison for stealing a kilo of methamphetamine out of the mail
Two former U.S. Postal employees were sentenced to prison for stealing packages containing marijuana from the U.S. mail and then selling the drugs, said U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman.
Rabih Kairouz, 29, of Akron, was sentenced to 37 months in prison.
Scott Gay, Jr., 33, of Canton, was sentenced to six months incarceration followed by six months of house arrest.
Corey Turnbull, 26, of Ravenna, was sentenced to probation.
Anton D. Easter, Jr., 27, of Akron is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
Kairouz, Gay and Turnbull worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Kairouz and Turnbull worked as a supervisor at the Five Points station in Akron while Gay was a manager at the North Hill station, according to court documents.
Together, intercepted suspected drug parcels at U.S. Post Offices in Akron, opened the parcels, removed marijuana contained inside, sold the marijuana to Easter and shared the profits. This took place between February and May 2017, according to court documents.
Kairouz also had a kilogram of methamphetamine that he stole from the mail, according to court documents.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Akron Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry F. DeBaggis and Teresa L. Riley.

stealing from the mail? We have an idiot, I mean stupidvisor, i mean supervisor here who was hired off the street, and had the nerve to ask, what is first class mail. Yes they really know how to pick them.
These dummies were set up. I do not think a drug dealer would report a box of missing drugs.
This begs the question also of how the drugs got as far into the mail system as they did. I know there are ways to package the stuff that makes it almost impossible to detect, but it is apparent these brilliant managers were in charge of the package screening and helped themselves to the goodies, no doubt thinking that the addressees weren’t going to call the cops and tell them their meth was stolen. No word on whether the intended customers were arrested.
Criminal behavior should never be tolerated at any level, and while it’s no secret craft employees have their shares of addictions from drugs to booze to whatever, it is doubly important that anybody in supervision be held to a higher standard, and never be allowed to supervise anybody when they’re capable of such illegal activities. Removal must be the only option.
But the USPS needs to crack down on abusive managers, clean their own houses and stop being embezzlers of money that is disguised as “performance bonuses” but is in reality nothing but skim. Maybe it technically isn’t a crime, but like so much corporate American big shots, it’s still wrong to overpay when the performances are clearly piss poor. Drugs or thieves – being a person willing to be dishonest and/or criminal should have no place in the USPS at any level.
Turnbull must be the informant or related to some
toolbag somewhere. He gets probation, everyone else
gets time. CI all the way.
Wouldn’t a better punishment be sentence them to ten years as CCA’s?
