Man accused of assaulting New York postal worker dies after going into cardiac arrest

A high homeless man died Saturday after he tried to stamp out a mailman in the Bronx, police said.

The 23-year-old postal worker was delivering packages inside an apartment complex on the Grand Concourse near E. 174th St. in Mount Eden when the drugged-up drifter hurled a phone at him and pounded him in the head with his fists around 2 p.m., cops said.

The postman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital as his 30-year-old assailant sat on the floor of the lobby waiting for cops, authorities said.

As police handcuffed the man, he went into cardiac arrest, officials said.

He was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he died. source
