Brooklyn postal worker arrested after 17,000 pieces of undelivered mail found

4/19/18 DYKER HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — A Brooklyn postal worker was arrested after 17,000 pieces of undelivered mail were found in his car, apartment and home, authorities said.

Aleksey Germash, a letter carrier who’s worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 16 years, had undelivered mail from as far back as 2005 in his possession. He told investigators he kept the mail because was overwhelmed by the amount he had to deliver each day. Germash said he made sure to deliver “the important mail.”

Officials found about 10,000 pieces of undelivered mail in his car, approximately 1,000 pieces in his locker and around 6,000 additional pieces of undelivered mail in his apartment.

They started investigating after they received information about full mail bags inside Germash’s car. USPS employees found 20 full bags in his car on April 18.

  1. Why don’t we assign blame where is deserves to be placed? On the Carrier.

    • Larry says….No problem, we’ll just file a grievance and get him off!

  2. PO Mismanagements plan is working great……cut the workers and add more mismanaging bureaucrats……and whip the piss out of remaining work staff. they take the service out of the service business. should be noted our wonderful PMG Muffin Meaghan Brennen was a IOD letter carrier within her first 6 months of employment……you go girl! roflmfao! now you know why the call it the US Postal Circus!

  3. I guarantee that 17k missing pieces of mail generated numerous calls to postal inspectors that went ignored and unanswered. They simply don’t care. Even so, they’ll certainly take credit for the bust for which they did nothing.

  4. How could you miss 1000 pieces of mail in your locker? For those who aren’t in the biz, 1000 pieces of letter mail averages about a two foot tray, depending on the thickness of the mail on any given day.
This guy was not just wrong, he was stupid. Did he not realize that he would lost his job for not getting it done anyway, but at least wouldn’t be arrested? Does he have family? Nice job of being there for them, moron.
And there is no reason a personal vehicle should have bags of mail in it. This is even more stupid – he left undelivered mail in his car and drove back and forth to his office with it every day? Are supervisors and managers all so opposed to ever going outside that they didn’t even look? And other carriers? I am retired but even though I was a true blue carrier, there comes a time when you have to tell management when you see or know something illegal or very wrong is going on. Carriers who won’t deliver their mail like this guy, and don’t tell me nobody “knew” about it, deal drugs and use them or drink on the job or other bad activities do not deserve their jobs, and they are a black eye to good letter carriers everywhere.
