USPS replacing all of its self-service kiosks with upgraded machines

4/26/2018 Self improvements – New retail kiosks offer updated features

The Postal Service is replacing all of its self-service kiosks with upgraded machines.

The new kiosks have improved screens that offer customers a similar experience to using usps.com.

“Customers can have more streamlined transactions that combine online features and retail counter service,” said Retail and Customer Service Operations Vice President Kelly Sigmon.

The new self-service kiosks feature:

• Technology to measure the customer’s mailpiece when it is placed on the scale.

• A single output bin for postage and labels that illuminates and flashes when an item is dispensed.

• A blue light over the monitor screen that lights up if there is an alert on the kiosk.

• A scanner that allows the sale of retail products and Ready Post items.

• A camera that allows employees to transmit pictures to the help desk.

USPS began installing the new kiosks this month. The rollout is slated for completion in July.

The kiosk improvements are part of the organization’s broader efforts to strengthen customers’ experiences.

Linda Reed, a customer who recently used one of the new kiosks at the Merrifield, VA, Post Office, said she appreciated the convenience it offers.

“Sometimes using self-service machines can be intimidating, but this one is pretty straightforward and easy to use,” she said. “I like the new look and I’m always happy to avoid a line.”

  1. Next new machine, Stupidvisor robot. Will have ability to eat donuts and drink coffee, yell and scream, and most importantly, it will have the ability to cash bonus checks.

    • Thank god. The present APC are always jamming. Customers run from them after their first bad experience.

    • Ertha…we didn’t pull out a single clerk from an office when we installed the old SSK machines. It’s extra service and new technology that gives the customer a better or faster experience and could keep them from taking business elsewhere.

  2. Good to stay cutting edge. That said, note to self: it’s also a good idea to keep windows staffed for lower wait times/reducing the lines for good customer service.

    Sincerely,

    common sense
