A U.S. Postal Service employee in Kansas City has been charged in connection with stealing pain pills that were being sent to patients via mail — one of eight indictments reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office Thursday.

Sherry Robertson, 40, has been charged with five counts of theft of mail by a postal employee and one count of possession with intent to distribute Hydrocodone, according to a release from the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

The indictment alleges Robertson removed the pills from mail on Sept. 20, 2012, Jan. 25, March 1, April 13 and May 8, 2013.

If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count. The U.S. Postal Service and the VA Office of Inspector General investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jabari Wamble is prosecuting.
